Yaay! You’re Engaged! Now What?
Congratulations! You’re engaged! That’s SO exciting!!
The only question now is: What’s next? With so many “to-dos” popping up in your head (dates, guest lists, dresses, and all that fun stuff) from the moment that ring hit your finger, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed.
Resist the urge.
Yes, getting engaged is huge! And, yes, planning your wedding is a big deal. But, if you let yourself get caught up in the stress of it all, you’ll end up missing out on all of the wonderful and fun stuff in between now and your big day. And, more likely than not, if you allow yourself to get too stressed when planning your wedding, you’ll end up stressing on your wedding day, too. And, let me tell you, stressed brides and grooms rarely photograph well.
To help curb the natural instinct to start stressing, we’ve created a simple list to go through after you’re engaged to help you stay focused. And, most importantly, you'll stay super excited. Trust us, you’ll have plenty of time to plan your big day. Right now, focus on your engagement.
5 Engagement To-Dos You Should Definitely Do
Get a manicure.
With that gorgeous new ring on (or about to be on) your finger, it’s time to make sure your nails look their best. If there ever was the perfect time to get a manicure, it’s right now. So don’t miss it! Not only will everyone be asking to see your ring (and, therefore, your hands), but there will be several opportunities for photos, too (and no one wants to have their shady looking hands overshadow their ring).
Announce that you're engaged.
Letting everyone know you’re engaged is a big deal! Plus, there are lots of different ways to do it. That means you can choose the ways that fit your personality best. Just remember that it’s usually a good idea to do both a formal and informal announcement. That way everyone you want to know knows. A digital version and a paper version is a also great way to ensure that everyone on your list gets the announcement. And, word to the wise, don’t send a paper announcement to anyone you’re not planning on inviting to the wedding unless you’re announcing that you’ll be eloping.
Insure your ring.
Accidents happen. Things get lost. As much as you hope nothing will ever happen to your engagement ring, there’s a chance that something will. To avoid being out the money you invested, take a moment to insure your ring. If anything does ever happen to it, you’ll be happy you can replace it quickly.
Throw a party.
Everyone will want to congratulate you in person once you share the big news. Rather than trying to adjust to everyone else’s schedule, throw yourself a party (or ask someone to do it) so that you’re not overwhelmed.
Get photos.
Engagement photos preserve this special moment in time. Plus, they’re great for using as an announcement or as decor for your wedding. Choosing to have a professional photographer take your engagement photos also gives you an idea of what you’re looking for in a wedding photographer. A lot of times, the person you choose to do your engagement shoot will also end up being the person you use for your wedding - so pick carefully!
