Should you hire a Wedding Videographer?

One of the questions we frequently get asked is whether or not hiring a videographer is worth it. Couples want to know what they should do, and our answer is always, “It depends.” A videographer can capture a different view of your wedding day, but many couples never rewatch their wedding video. So, it’s important to think about what makes sense for you as a couple. But there are some pros and cons to hiring a videographer.

Video gives you a different perspective

Video creates such a different emotion. It includes audio and music, so it can be so much fun to watch your big day with all the added details. It’s a very unique way to relive the day because videographers can really recreate your wedding for you. You’ll also be able to see all those details that you might have missed throughout the day.

Hiring a videographer is a big investment

Videography can be expensive depending on the experience of the videographer and the type of equipment they have. This isn’t inherently a bad thing, and it shouldn’t necessarily dissuade you from hiring a videographer. But it does mean you need to carefully consider if it’s worth it to you. If you have a tight budget, it might not make sense for you to get a videographer.

It adds more time to the day

Adding a videographer means it might be harder to create a schedule and coordinate people on the day of. We often need to add extra time to everything since the videographer will need some time alone with you. They’ll want to have their own time for things like portraits.

You can rewatch your wedding

This depends on you as a person. Some people like the idea of being able to watch their wedding again and again. They like the idea of being able to show something to their children. Video can also help you capture those moments with older family members, or you can show the video to guests who were unable to attend the wedding. If you want a video of your day so you can relive it, you should invest in a videographer.

Wedding Videographers We Love Working With

When it comes to picking a videographer, it’s important to pick one that works for you and what you’re looking for. Many videographers are a little more “old school” and that can make for a more difficult experience. They want to be in front versus a fly on the wall. When searching for a videographer, ask them if they can adapt quickly. Are they able to go with the flow as the wedding happens? You want them to capture the real moments, not make you pose and redo things again and again. There are a few videographers that we love working with.

Dax Victorino: Dax and his partner, Pao, are Lake Tahoe and destination videographers who want to create an easy experience for their clients. They love to create people-centric films and have a variety of add-ons you can use to customize your experience.

Kyle Mize: Kyle focuses on creating an authentic time capsule for his clients. He’s an all-inclusive videographer with years of experience capturing weddings.

Logan Lisle: Logan has experience shooting a variety of types of films, but he also has a lot of experience with weddings. He loves to create a story from scratch and has a variety of packages available to fit any budget.

If you are debating whether or not you should hire a videographer, think about this: will you actually watch the video after? Do you have family members who can’t attend who would like to watch it? Does it matter enough to you that you’re willing to make the investment and take time throughout the day? At the end of the day, hiring a videographer depends on what you want. It is usually worth the investment.

As wedding photographers, we have a lot of experience working with different videographers. We’d love to have the opportunity to capture your love story and your big day. Reach out to us, so we can get to know each other!
