Engagement Session

Super awesome, fun, and important, an engagement session is not only a way for us all to meet, hang out and get to know each other, but it’s also a great way for you to practice being in front of the camera before your big day. We will teach you all our super easy insider-secret tricks for looking and feeling awesome on in front of the camera, while also using this as an opportunity to highlight your true personality together in a relaxed and stunning environment. This prep work ensures that you’ll be pros on your wedding day – having your photo taken (again and again) will feel like a breeze.

Scheduling your session
Engagement sessions are normally scheduled for weekday evenings (around 1-2 hours before sunset) anytime before your wedding. Most couples like to schedule it with enough time so that the images can be used for the Save the Dates, Invitations or Wedding Website (roughly 9-3 months before your wedding day). If you have a location that is special to you, we would LOVE to photograph you there. Or, if you need help finding a spot, we’ll be happy to show you some of our favorites!

Make a Day Out of It
Make your engagement session part of a day-long date. This not only gives you plenty of time for photos without feeling rushed, but starting your day in this mindset helps you feel connected and romantic as you head into the session. Start your day with a boozy brunch or coffee at your favorite spot. Do a fun activity. Spoil each other with massages. Listen to your favorite songs in the car on the way over to the location and remind each other how much you love each other – all day long.

How to get those awesome candid shots
We love movement in our images! You can run, laugh, kiss, hug, twirl and do whatever you feel like. Our cameras are really fast and we love those quick and sweet “in-between” moments. We will prompt you to so some different things together and, even if they feel silly, we always manage to get a couple good reactions out of them – so trust us!

An engagement session is about you and your love, so if you want to make it special, you can listen to your favorite song and dance as the sun sets, prepare little love notes, toast with champagne, have a picnic dinner, hike a mountain, swim in the lake or come up with a little surprise gift (we don’t even have to know what it is) for each other and then reveal them during our session. All (or any) of these little unique moments that reflect who you are as a couple help us get some really incredible images.

What to Wear
Dress like yourself. Wear something that makes you feel awesome, beautiful and comfortable. We have guides for what colors are best and how to avoid bright and distracting patterns or logos, but, ultimately, if you wear what you love that’s going to be the best choice. Don’t stress too much over it – it’s your connection we’re after, not your clothes! And, if you feel like you just can’t make up your mind, you can always bring options! However, do ALWAYS bring good shoes you can walk over rocks, through dirt and some distance in. Bad shoes may hinder us.
