We always love doing weddings for couples we’ve worked with before, and Whitney and Richard’s gorgeous wedding at the Granlibakken retreat center in Tahoe was no exception. Perfectly laidback, the entire day couldn’t have gone more smoothly, which meant we simply got to enjoy taking photos and all the people we were surrounded by.
We arrived at Granlibakken around noon to be ready to get portraits of the family and wedding party after all of the hair and makeup was done. Right after the First look we all decided to run away for a bit and do some amazing lake portraits, right before the ceremony. Best decision ever!! Taking those little moments in a day to just get away are so worth it! Then as soon as we got back, like most weddings, everything started rolling – ceremony, guests enjoyed a cocktail hour followed by a reception, dinner and dancing.
The beautiful wooded setting had extra meaning for Whitney and Richard because it’s also where they got engaged. And, because family and guests all stayed at the location, nothing felt rushed or stressful – everyone had time to just relax and visit, which really is key to a good wedding day! Their day was so well planned it all felt so natural and easy. Every moment was meaningful and special.
It was magical seeing all of the details the two worked so hard on come to life, including the unbelievable flower arch they used in the ceremony. Other details we loved were Whitney’s strapless gown with a long train (the perfect choice for this laidback outdoor wedding) and the botanical-themed tables, decorated with an assortment of flowers, leaves, branches, an eclectic mix of candles, and even an antler or two!
As the night wound down, we made time for a few more late night portraits with the couple, capturing the end of a truly perfect day.
